Resources for Help

This blog space is about telling my story. It’s got some rough patches in it — some things that were very hard for me to go through. And a main purpose of all of this storytelling is that I want to increase understanding of and awareness of trauma and provide a place for trauma victims to begin to heal.

But I’m not a professional therapist. I don’t know everything about responding to people in trouble — in fact, I know very little. So in that spirit, I want to provide a list of resources for survivors of trauma, people struggling with depression, and other people in pain. Here they are:

  1. Help if you’re suicidal: Suicide Prevention Services for America
  2. PTSD help: Anxiety and Depression Association of America
  3. Sexual violence help; there are a lot of these, so I’m posting the google search I did. It appears to bring up sites and resources by your location: google search for help with sexual violence
  4. Trans* resources: National Center for Transgender Equality

This list is not exhaustive. These were just the things that came to mind, and I’m sure I’ll be adding more. If you know good resources that are not included here, please let me know in the comments. Thanks!
